CURRICULUM VITAE CONSTRUCTION

Personal Details
This should include your name, current address, contact telephone number/s, e-mail address, date of birth and any other details that you feel are relevant.

Personal Statement
This should be something that sells you as a person to employers. It should be true and reflect your character and personality. It is often the first thing employers will look at and they will decide whether they want to read the rest of your C.V. from this statement.

Education
This section should provide your secondary school details and show the name and full postal address of the school(s) you have attended. You need to show the inclusive dates of your attendance. In due course, it will include details of any college/s or universities you have attended.

Qualifications
Include your G.C.S.E’s., AS and A2 examination results and any other qualifications you have obtained that are relevant (First Aid Certificates, coaching awards, etc.). You should put your academic qualifications in chronological order (the most recent ones first) and where appropriate, in grade order (the highest grades at the top of the list).

Employment History
Include your most recent job first. List the name and address of the company and the inclusive dates between which you worked there. For example:

Company Name     February 2009 to Present
Company Name     March 2008 – February 2009

Show what your job title was or is and provide a brief description of your main responsibilities and duties.

Hobbies/Interests
List any clubs or organisations that you belong to, any interests you have, any sports you like to take part in (whether recreationally or competitively), etc.

References
If someone has agreed to be a referee for you, either a character reference or an employer reference, list him or her in this section. Show their full contact details including name, address, company or organisation (if applicable), contact telephone number and e-mail address. References generally need to be provided by someone who has known you for at least two years.

Remember: When composing your C.V. keep it brief. The interview is the chance for you to promote yourself. Always remember to write positive comments about yourself. If there are any negatives, do not put them on your C.V. Always show your strengths and never your weaknesses, as employers will notice these. Finally remember that your word-processed C.V. should fit on to a maximum of two sides of A4 paper.
