Abortion
Just because it is legal does it make it right?
This is a problem of a person’s conscience.
An abortion is the termination of a foetus. It must happen up to 24 weeks.
It is a moral dilemma. There is no right or wrong answer if it is morally right to do it.
It is an emotional issue.
Whether you agree with it or not depends on how you feel about that unborn life and the value of life in society of an unwanted child.
It is about whose choice is it to abort a baby?
What about human rights?
A father has no rights. So what about an unborn babies rights?
Should we seriously consider an unborn baby’s right to live. Many people feel we should!
Some say it is about the mothers absolute choice. The alternative was not to allow abortion and that was barbaric.
You should be able to show that you can consider different points of view in a discussion.

Two Doctors must decide if an abortion may be performed.
Reasons to allow an abortion
If the mother can’t cope emotionally.
If the mother can’t afford it.
If the mother’s life is in danger.
If the baby would be disabled.

All life is sacred
There is the sanctity
of life to consider.
The law of God says “thou shalt not murder.”
Christians would say God knows about the life of the infant before they are born and to destroy it is going against God.
How do the Churches feel?
The Roman Catholic Church says that all abortion is morally wrong. It is considered as murder. This is because they believe that the soul is present from the moment of fertilisation.
Other Church groups feel that each case for a termination should be considered on its own merit . Love and compassion should be exercised in all cases. This is because Jesus taught about love and forgiveness. Jesus said nothing about abortion. So it is about conscience. Christians might disagree on abortion in a case of rape for example.
Most Christian Churches will allow an abortion if the mothers life is in danger.
Things to consider
“ An unwanted baby is just as bad as an abortion.”
Abortion should not be used as a form of contraception.
